Caring For Your Silver Earrings

Before you actually make a purchase, you'll need to know a few things about taking care of sterling silver to avoid disappointments later on. You can also avoid going through panic. It's actually not too hard to maintain.

Sterling silver is 92.5% silver and the rest is copper. That's why you may see it marked ".925 sterling silver." Not taking care can cause it to get tarnished and discolored. For example, try to keep it dry. Swimming in a pool with it on will cause deterioration.

Try to store it in a dry place and away from sunlight. You can place it in an air-tight plastic bag that can zip shut. Do you recall seeing packets of silica gel in certain vitamins you may have bought in the past? Save those. Place it in the bag to absorb moisture.

Clean your silver earrings with a mild and dilute cleanser that contains no alcohol, bleach or ammonia. Rinse with water and dry completely. Use a cloth made out of 100% cotton.
